The New York Pops 2006-2007 Carnegie Hall Season
with guest conductors Rob Fisher, Marvin Hamlisch, Stuart Malina,
and Alastair Willis opens on Friday, October 20 with Doc Severinsen’s
Big Band Salute to Skitch Henderson. There will be appearances
by Doug LaBrecque, Maureen
McGovern, Christiane Noll, Lynn Roberts, Anne Runolfsson, Juilliard
Choral Union, Young People’s Chorus of New York City and
more during the orchestra’s 24th season.
Five different conductors will lead The New York
Pops in the orchestra’s first full season since the death
of founder Skitch Henderson last November. The five will offer
a “Salute to Skitch” by performing music from genres
and by composers Skitch admired.
Doc Severinsen’s October 20 concert of big
band favorites will include songs by the Gershwins, Cole Porter,
and Irving Berlin as played by the big bands of the Dorseys, Harry
James, and Benny Goodman. A singer who joined these bands as a
teen, Lynn Roberts, is slated to perform “Green Eyes,”
“Tangerine”, “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and
other hits.
Alastair Willis will lead Christmas and Hanukkah
favorites with Broadway diva Christiane Noll and the Young People’s
Chorus of New York City in what is always one of New York’s
most loved holiday events, Friday, December 15, 2006, 8:00PM and
Saturday, December 16, 2006, 8:00PM, Carnegie Hall.
