Five select students from the Salute to Music program receive full scholarships to attend the New York Summer Music Festival.
Since 2003, The New York Summer Music Festival - Pops Scholarship has provided exceptional Salute to Music students with free tuition to attend a two-week session at the prestigious New York Summer Music Festival at The State University of New York in Oneonta. During their two-week stay students participate in a comprehensive course of musical study comprised of classes, private instruction, solo and ensemble performances, film making and scoring, musical theater and recreational activities. To date The New York Pops has awarded thirty-five scholarships and many of our recipients have gone on to pursue music as a career.
"Now that camp is over, I think that I have truly benefitted as musician and a person. As a musician, from the great instruction and hard work put into mastering challenging pieces, and as a person because at camp you were often very independent. Overall, I am very grateful to the Pops for sponsering me to go to camp and having a really incredible summer!" Maya Drezewicki, Scholarship Winner, 2010 |
In honor of The New York Pops founder Skitch Henderson, who visited the camp from 2003-2005, NYSMF holds an annual pops concert in his memory. Since 2009, Music Director Steven Reineke has continued the tradition with an annual visit to conduct the NYSMF Pops Orchestra. |
"My time at NYSMF was definitely the highlight of my summer. Nothing can describe how much I learned and enjoyed during the camp, and it really was on of the best summers I've ever had in my entire life." Stephanie Gozali, Scholarship Winner, 2009 |
